EVACUATION ORDERS
The Office of Emergency Management takes into consideration ALL conditions and predictions prior to making such a decision. Many factors must exist prior to issuing an evacuation order of any type. There are several different types of orders that could be issued and each has specific guidelines that must be followed by both the City and the Citizens alike. In the event of a "Mandatory Evacuation" order being issued, this means just that. Load up and go. Routes will be posted and monitored by the Police Department to ensure that you are able to safely leave the city. Once the Evacuation order is given, all citizens in the effected area, be it localized to your neighborhood or street, or the entire city, are required to leave their homes and exit the city. In the event of a major storm, once the winds make or exceed 55mph locally, all city services will cease until such time that the winds diminish to a safe level. You will not have help until such time that the police department can respond safely. Once you leave the city, you will not be allowed back into the city until such time that it is deemed safe to do so. Any persons that do not evacuate and are found not on their own property (Including the public roadway) are subject to detention or arrest. This is the highest order given in Evacuation. The decision makers study all possibilities prior to making such an order. Once the order is issued by the Mayor, it may only be rescinded by the Mayor. If the order is given for Mandatory Evacuation, follow the order and leave the city.
